Pack a Protein Punch: An Easy, Portable High-Protein Snack
Nutritionists routinely toss around numbers for how much protein we need a day, but if you're working out and trying to lose weight, you might not be getting enough protein to feed your tired muscles.
When you head to the gym to lift weights or participate in sports, your body consumes more protein. Reducing fat and gaining muscle is the best way to get to a healthy weight you can maintain, but if you're shorting yourself on protein, your workouts won't feel nearly as rewarding.
Remember: If you're not eating enough nutrition while exercising, your body will start to consume your muscles for energy! That's the last thing you want to happen when you're figuring out how to build muscle.
Going on a hike tomorrow? You might pack some trail mix to eat at your destination. If you're headed out for a few hours of cycling, you might toss a protein bar in your pocket. But sometimes these moderately healthy snacks and pre-packaged foods contain too much sugar.
If you're a little weary of trail mixes, protein bars and yogurt shakes, you might want to pack some pepperoni chips on your next hike or for a tasty high-protein snack.
1 package thinly sliced pepperoni
Fresh black pepper (optional)
Cooking your Pepperoni Chips:
Place pepperonis in a single layer on a cookie sheet and bake on 350°F for about 10 to 15 minutes. Sprinkle black pepper on the finished pepperonis if you desire.
You may also employ a microwave to speed things along. Blanket the pepperonis in paper towels to absorb the grease.
Take a few slices of cheese to eat with your pepperoni chips.
Try using hard salami for a thicker chip.
Low in carbs and sugar, pepperoni chips take virtually no finesse in the kitchen and are absolutely delicious!
